Nelson RCMP say a teenage girl has died after her car went down an embankment on the North Shore.

RCMP said in a statement that a 17-year-old Procter resident was reported missing at nearly 6 p.m. on July 3.

Police, local search and rescue, and friends and family assisted in the search. The youth was found deceased in her car, a green 1997 Honda CRV, on an embankment in the 5400 block of Highway 3A between the Harrop-Procter ferry and Nelson.

The Nelson Star does not publish names of car crash victims without family consent.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. RCMP say the car was likely travelling toward Nelson at approximately 10-10:30 a.m. on the day of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact RCMP at 250-352-2156.
