A byelection will be held for Salmo Village Council this summer.

The Village of Salmo will hold a byelection this summer, following the recent resignation of Councillor Melanie Cox.

The date of the byelection is still to be decided.

"Staff is working through to determine the appropriate timeline as we head into summer and having reduced staff due to holiday," Mayor Diana Lockwood told the Nelson Star in an email. "Once staff is prepared to recommend to council a chief elections officer, we will be able to move forward with this task."

Cox declined to comment on the reason for her resignation.

It's the second resignation this term on council. In January 2023, Todd Wallace resigned from council for health reasons. He was replaced in a byelection by Jonathan Heatlie.
