Two teen girls attacked in Nelson: police

Nelson police say they are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted two teenage girls in Nelson on Friday.

The suspect is described as 40 years of age, Caucasian, with long dark hair and facial hair was dressed in black, dirty clothing.

The Nelson Police Department said in a press release that the man was involved in a “random and unprovoked assault” of two teens near the intersection of Cedar and Front Streets at approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 15. Police said witnesses intervened in the assault.

“This was a senseless and reprehensible act of violence against two innocent individuals,” said Insp. Kris Rice in a statement.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety of our community, and we are fully committed to identifying and apprehending the suspect responsible for this assault.”

Nelson police are also investigating a second assault that allegedly happened March 14 at a residence on the 200 block of Vernon Street.

A victim was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police said the incident is believed to be isolated but no arrests have been made.
