Glacier Gymnastics qualifies athletes for provincials

Thirty-one Glacier gymnasts qualified to compete at the B.C. Gymnastics Championships during the Key City Classic competition in Cranbrook, Feb. 21-23.

The 42-member team returned home winning 92 medals and nine first-place all around titles. This bi-provincial competition attracted over 400 participants from clubs in British Columbia and Alberta.

Because of the participation growth in competitive gymnastics, Gymnastics BC has added an additional weekend of competition in order to accommodate for all competitive levels. 

“Competitive gymnastics is a big commitment at all levels,” said head coach Sandra Long. “The opportunity for the Xcel gymnasts to be recognized for their dedication is long overdue.”

Glacier gymnasts who qualified for the first annual Xcel B.C. Gymnastics Championships taking place in Langley, April 17-19 are: Evelyn Kelly, Ibuki Gabriel, Micah Anderson, Paisley Martin, Gemma Pauly, Fallon Peel, Madeleine Grypma, Tui Melville, Maren Port, Charlotte Robinson, Lilyanna Hynes, Elodie Kinsman, Lux Bourdon, Jane Kim, Liv Campbell, Riley Talbot, Thora Suomi, Azuli Enciso Irwin, Olive Kutcher, Juri Hirano, Lia Keely, Paisley Jarvis, Amelia Kinsman, Denali Davis, Teija Hartman and Ayla Kipkie.

Gymnasts who qualified for the Canadian Program B.C. Gymnastics Championships taking place in Surrey, April 4-6 are: Lillianna Mucha, Rebecka van Hellemond, Jersey Skolka, Emerson Mandseth and Molly Anderson.

The consistent training brought on by the reopening of the Club’s Civic Centre facility will bring about some good results at the Xcel and Canadian Program B.C. Gymnastics Championships, said Long. The coaching team is confident of seeing some personal best performances by Glacier gymnasts at these competitions.

Result highlights from the Key City Invitational in Cranbrook include all around titles for: Ibuki Gabriel, Micah Anderson, Paisley Martin, Tui Melville, Lux Bourdon, Liv Campbell, Amelia Kinsman, Rebecka van Hellemond and Jersey Skolka.
