Nelson’s Glacier Gymnastics won 17 medals and two team championships this past weekend at the Flip Fest competition in Spokane.

Nine gymnasts from Nelson’s Glacier Gymnastics Club competed against 12 clubs from Washington and Idaho on Jan 18 and 19 in the team’s first U.S. competition in four years.

The gymnasts competing in the Level 7 category brought home the first-place team award for their collective highest overall score.

Leading the team, Rebecka van Hellemond won first place All Around in the 13-and-under category. She also won gold on beam and silver on floor.

In the 14-and-over age group, Anouk Prud’homme captured second place All Around and bronze on floor. Molly Anderson took third-place All Around, gold on beam and bronze on bars. Jersey Skolka was first place on floor and bronze on vault.

Glacier’s Level 6 team brought home a third place team trophy. In the 14-and-over age group, Anika Denkovski took second-place All Around, gold medal on bars and floor and bronze on vault. Teammate Emerson Mandseth was silver medalist on vault and won the bronze medal on bars. Youngest team member Lillianna Mucha was second All Around in the 13-and-under category. She also won the silver medal on beam. Elsa Troutet received seventh place on floor

Level 8 gymnast Anni van Hellemond grabbed two fourth places, one for vault and the other for floor.

“This is a great starting point for the rest of the season,” said Sandra Long, Glacier Gymnastics head coach. “Now we will head back into the gym to refine any rough spots and continue to build routine confidence.”

The next competition for the gymnastics team is the Glacier Fest that the club is hosting in Nelson at the end of January.
