The Nelson Leafs split a pair of weekend home games against the Columbia Valley Rockies and the Chase Heat.

Rockies goaltender Jaiden Jakubowski made 49 saves as Columbia Valley beat Nelson 5-2 on Saturday.

Danny Schmirler and Oleg Bitus each scored twice while Carter Krause added a single for the Rockies (22-10-5), who won despite never outshooting Nelson in any period.

Ty Nykyforuk and Memfis Burgeson replied for the Leafs (18-16-2), while Karl Soneff stopped 24 shots.

On Sunday afternoon, the Leafs never trailed in a 5-3 win over Chase.

Burgeson, Parker White, Kieran Christianson, Camron Wickham and Crae Dawson each scored for Nelson, with goalie Jackson McLeod making 16 saves.

The Leafs again tested a goalie by firing 56 shots at Chase’s Meyer Gaume. Markus Baron, Jack Smith and Jalen Davidson each had a goal for the Heat (9-23-3).

Nelson next visits Creston Valley on Friday before hosting the Sicamous Eagles on Saturday.
