The Nelson Leafs earned one win during a three-game swing through the Okanagan last weekend.

In Summerland, the Leafs fired a mind-boggling 72 shots en route to a 4-3 shootout win against the Steam.

Former Leafs goalie Jasper Tait stopped 68 shots but gave up a shootout goal to Craw Dawson that secured Nelson’s win.

Seamus Boyd, Tyler Seminoff and Kane Kennedy each scored in regulation for the Leafs (14-15-2), with Jackson McLeod making 26 saves.

Austin Barrett, Jacob Rausch and Joseph Krukowski replied for the Steam (7-18-4).

The next night the Leafs allowed three goals in the third period in a 6-3 loss to the Kelowna Chiefs, who had four power-play goals and one more shorthanded.

Joseph Melichar scored twice for Kelowna (11-18-3), with singles coming from Matt Keylor, Mathias Reha, Nikita Syerov and Aiden Cotroneo. Goaltender Brendan Smith turned aside 28 shots.

Boyd, Kennedy and Carsyn Crawford had goals for the Leafs, while Frederick Larochelle stopped 29 shots.

The Leafs completed the road trip with a 5-1 loss to the North Okanagan Knights in Armstrong on Sunday.

The Knights (11-16-5) scored four unanswered goals in the second period, with Laszlo Istvanffy, Dane Dietz, Nolan Kelly, Colton Fleming and Carter Will scoring a goal apiece.

Nelson didn’t lose for lack of effort. The Leafs fired 55 shots at Knights goalie Josh Hager, with only Xaiden Bignell scoring in the first period.

McLeod returned to the net and made 22 saves.

The Leafs also made a lineup change. Nelson traded forward Adam Valach to the North Okanagan Knights on Jan. 5 in exchange for future considerations. Valach had two goals and two assists in 24 games during his rookie season.

The KIJHL’s trade deadline is Jan. 10.

Nelson next begins a five-game homestand, starting Friday against the Kimberley Dynamiters followed by a game Saturday against the Golden Rockets.
