Nelson figure skaters win 5 gold medals at regional championships

The Nelson Figure Skating Club won five gold medals at the Kootenay Regional Championships, which ran Feb. 15-16 in Creston.

Alexis Vongkeo took first place in Star 4 Freeskate, Aili Brackett won gold in Pre-novice Short/Long, Vienna Ferguson was on top of the podium in Star 4/5 Dance, Milo Jarvis finished first in Star 6 Freeskate, and Jen McNutt captured first in Adult Masters Artistic.

Ferguson also earned second place in Star 5 Elements, second in Star 5 Artistic and third in Star 5 Freeskate, while Vongkeo finished second in Star 4 Elements.

Sara Hurd (second in Star 6/7 Dance, sixth in Star 4 Freeskate, sixth in Star 7 Artistic), Tiia Brackett (second in Star 8/9, seventh in Star 9 Artistic), Oceane Cheon (second in Star 5 Freeskate, fourth in Star 5 Elements), Rebekah Profili (third in Star 4/5 Dance, sixth in Star 5 Artistic, ninth in Star 4 Freeskate), Paisley Jarvis (third in Star 5 Artistic, eighth Star 6 Freeskate), Paige Vince (sixth in Star 9 Artistic, 13th in Star 5 Freeskate), Kara Westerhaug (sixth in Star 4 Freeskate) and Freya Devine (11th in Star 4 Freeskate).
