Nelson Skating Club gears up for year-end show

The Ice Show is inspired by the hit movie Wicked and will take place at the NDCC on March 14 at 4:30 p.m.

Nelson Skating Club is switching into ice show planning mode after another successful competition last weekend.

Skaters competed in the Super Series Final held in Kelowna, Feb. 27-March 2. Thirteen skaters competed and brought home five medals.

Tiia Brackett placed fourth and Sara Hurd brought home a bronze medal for their efforts in Star 8 and Star 6 Dance respectively. Rebekah Profili placed third in Star 4/5 Dance.

Brackett, Paisley Jarvis, Hurd, Vienna Ferguson and Profili all had beautiful performances in their Artistic events. Jen McNutt had a personal best score of the year for her performance in Adult Elite artistic and was awarded a gold medal. Paige Vince also had a personal best score in Star 9 artistic and brought home a bronze medal.

Nelson Skating Club had many skaters in the various freeskate events offered at Super Series. Alexis Vongkeo and Freya Devine competed in Star 4 and placed sixth and seventh. Kara Westerhag and Profili skated in the Star 4 under-13 category. Vince scored another personal best score with her freeskate program in Star 5. Ferguson and Oceane Cheung did well in their freeskate programs in the Star 5 U13 category.

Paisley and Milo Jarvis both skated strong freeskate programs in Star 6 women and Star 6 men categories. Aili Brackett had an amazing short program performance in the Pre-Novice Short program followed by skating her long program for Pre-Novice the following day.

With the competition season behind them, the Nelson Skating Club coaches and skaters are busy preparing for their annual ice show. The ice show is inspired by the hit movie Wicked and will take place at the NDCC on Saturday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and entry is by donation.
