Local athletes won eight medals during the 12th annual Junior Freeski Open hosted by Whitewater Ski Resort on Jan. 4 to 7.

Whitewater’s freeride team swept the podium in the under-19 women’s ski competition. Freja Keyserlingk won gold ahead of teammate Emily Horn in second and third-place Megan Bonikowsky. Cadence Schmidt was also fourth among the 15 athletes who finished.

Monroe Crosland meanwhile won gold in the under-12 girls ski division.

Zoe Bombier won silver in U15 girls skiing, River Slootweg took silver in U15 boys snowboarding, Wyatt Atkins earned silver in U19 men’s ski, and North Slater earned bronze in U15 boys skiing.

Correction: A previous version of this story stated Whitewater athletes won seven medals. It was actually eight — we missed Wyatt Atkins winning a silver.
