Nelson City Police reports there were 17 vehicles involved in accidents on Wednesday as the Heritage City got its first dump of snow in quite some time.

Wednesday's dump of snow created havoc on Nelson streets with police reporting 17 vehicles involved in incidents.

People described the morning commute as "crazy," "insane" and "gong show" as roads were blocked off and many drivers found themselves sliding sideways or even spinning 360s.

Nelson City Police Sgt. Paul Bayes says his department heard of 17 vehicles involved in incidents.

"No one was injured, fortunately," he said.

Police went so far as to advise people stay off the roads if at all possible.

While the amount of snow falling over the Heritage City wasn't much by Kootenay standards, it was the first dump of the white stuff in quite some time.
