Amelio has not faded away

Castlegar musician Nina Amelio released a new single this week. "Faded Away" .

Castlegar musician Nina Amelio released a new song this week. “Faded Away” was recorded in Toronto with Zedd Records in June.

Amelio wrote the song back in 2009. She performed it locally numerous times, including at the celebration of life for her step brother Josh Evin, Castlegar’s professional skateboarder who died in a tragic accident in 2010.

She always had hopes of finishing the song and recording it and a Factor (Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) grant enabled her to see it happen. “I had thought that if I get the grant, I am definitely going to finish this song how I have always envisioned it,” said Amelio. Her producer, Mark Zubek, called her to come record when he suddenly had a cancellation. Amelio did not have confirmation of the grant at the time, but decided to go for it anyway. “A week after I decided to do the song, I got the grant — so it was all meant to be,” she explained.

The song speaks of loss. “For me, how I wrote it, is soothing someone,” said Amelio. “For me it was a loss through death, but it could be a break up — whenever someone walks out of their life, or has left us.”

Amelio reports that the actual recording of the song went really well. The session was over in an hour and a half and she was a little hesitant about how fast it went, but Zubek assured her, “You’ve nailed it.”

“I am really happy with how it turned out, it is exactly what I wanted,” said Amelio.

Along with the single, Amelio is releasing a series of five music video trailers between 20 and 50 seconds long that were filmed in Nelson with Dan Caverly of Quinntex Entertainment. One will show up on her website each week.

“Faded Away” is available at ninamelio.com and on Spotify, iTunes and Tidal. There is also a giveaway promotion that includes free downloads, t-shirts or hats available at http://gvwy.io/5th9xx8 or from Amelio’s Facebook page.

Amelio has also signed with a manager, Chris Sobonya of Arrow Music Agency, and her other songs continue to get airplay. “Savage Love” has reached 400,000 plays on Soundcloud.
