A 26-year-old female attended the front counter of the Nelson Police Department at approximately 6:45 a.m. and reported that she'd been assaulted. The incident had taken place in an apartment in the 400 block of Ward Street 30 minutes earlier.
"She sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by the BC Ambulance Service," said Sgt. Dino Falcone. "Nelson police attended the scene and located the 45-year-old male who was charged with assault with a weapon."
The alleged assailant was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to attend court on April 28. The investigation is ongoing. A mental health team was dispatched to assess the situation after the man was released.
