Area restriction imposed near Monument Creek wildfire

BC Wildfire Service has imposed an area restriction in the vicinity of the Monument Creek wildfire.

The Monument Creek wildfire is burning about 17 km from Nelson. It was started by lightning Sunday, is considered out of control but isn’t currently threatening any structures, according to an update issued Friday by the Southeast Fire Centre.

The restriction means the public is prohibited from traveling in the area described as follows:

“Commencing at the junction of Six Mile Road and Spur 500 then due north to Duhamel Creek. Following Duhamel Creek up to 6 Mile Lakes and along the Six Mile Lakes FSR to Lemon Creek FSR. Following down Lemon Creek FSR west to the junction of the Lemon Holmsen road before heading up Lemon Holmsen road 1 km to the junction of Monument Creek FSR. Follow Monument Creek FSR south to the top of the road and directly to the top of Mount Grohman. From Mount Grohman follow the height of land south and then east to follow Spur road DU500 back to Six Mile Road.”

Travel on Lemon Creek FSR is permitted, but entering the restricted area is prohibited. Travel is prohibited on all other road networks within the area restriction.
