The provincial government will be adding 1219 hectares to West Arm Provincial Park.
It's part of a larger package of additions that are part of legislation introduced by Environment Minister Mary Polak, that, if passed, will add more than 1,500 hectares to B.C.’s parks.
The land that would be added to the southeast side of West Arm Park was acquired by the provincial government on March 31, 2005, from Pluto Darkwoods Corporation.
The environment ministry says it will help to protect old growth forests and some critical habitat for the South Selkirk mountain caribou population, a small declining herd estimated to be around 18 animals.
The addition will also protect the headwaters of Kuketl Creek, according to the ministry.
