Some Nelson residents are under investigation by B.C. Conservation after they were caught harassing geese with their boats Friday evening.

Two boats were allegedly spotted in Kootenay Lake circling geese and preventing them from flying, according to a Nelson Police Department release. Witnesses and officers also said the boats appeared to be attempting to run the geese over.

Police said one of the boats was spotted docking at a residence, while the other was intercepted on the water by police and Nelson Fire and Rescue staff.

Intentionally hazing wildlife on waterways can result in enforcement through the B.C. Wildlife Act.

Police ask reports of similar offences be made to the department at 250-354-3919 or the RAPP Line at 1-877-952-7277.
