Nelson’s spring burning period is on now, and runs until the end of the month.
Burning permits are available at the Nelson Fire Department at 919 Ward Street for $10, and allow for the burning of woody debris.
Burning will only be allowed on days when venting in the area is good, according to the Ministry of Environment’s Venting Index. Those using their permits are required to report to the fire service on the day they’re burning.
Another backyard burning period is planned for the fall.
