One of the candidates in the upcoming byelection for Nelson City Council has dropped out.

Dan Nolan told the Nelson Star he has decided there should be more women at the council table.

“I had a conversation with [candidate] Nicole Charlwood about this, and I believe she would be very competent for the role,” said Nolan, adding that he will be helping her with her campaign.

Brenton Raby and Joshua Wapp are running in the byelection in addition to Charlwood.

They are campaigning to replace Brittny Anderson, who is now the Nelson-Creston MLA after winning her first provincial election in November.

General voting will occur March 27 at the Prestige Lakeside Resort. Advance voting meanwhile will be available March 17 and 24 at Nelson City Hall.

The Nelson Star will have more coverage of individual candidates in the coming weeks.
