Changes coming

As other rates went up, the executive director of Nelson’s Touchstones told city council she’s planning to drop ticket prices for adults at the museum and art gallery.

As other rates went up, the executive director of Nelson’s Touchstones told city council she’s planning to drop ticket prices for adults at the museum and art gallery.

Leah Best says the museum is planning to reduce adult admission to $8 from $10, but also plans to reduce the number of days it opens in the winter.

Under the new schedule Touchstones would close on Monday and Tuesday, operating five days a week instead of six. At the same time, Sunday hours would increase slightly, with the museum opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Winter hours would be in effect from mid-September to mid-May, with the museum still opening seven days a week in the summer.

“We realized we were open a lot more hours than even organizations much larger than us,” Best told council. “We think that being closed on a Tuesday and extending our hours on Sunday brings us more in line with organizations of our size.”

Best says the changes to fees and scheduling will likely be adopted in late February.
