Crash causes 15-hour power outage

Over 1,000 Slocan Valley residents were without power from 1 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday after a jeep crashed at Crescent Valley.

Over 1,000 Slocan Valley residents were without power from 1 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday after a vehicle struck a pole at Crescent Valley.

Police say a 69-year-old Slocan woman suffered minor injuries after her 1999 Jeep Cherokee in the crash on Highway 6 near the Pony Espresso coffee stand.

The vehicle cut the pole in half and dropped a live power line onto the highway.

Neil Pobran of FortisBC says the pole was "critical" in their distribution network and resulted in a power outage that affected 1,087 customers.

The woman, who was travelling to Nelson, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police aren't sure what caused the accident, but say driver inattention was likely.

The highway was closed, but it's unclear for how long.
