Disc golf proposal runs into red tape

A plan to bring disc golf to Nelson has hit a snag.

A plan to bring disc golf to Nelson has hit a snag.

After putting forward a motion that would have allowed a group of local disc golfers to build a course above the cemetery and use the land for at least two years, councillor Deb Kozak was told the city can’t sign a lease agreement for the land with the group because they aren’t a formal society.

“They’re an ad hoc group,” city manager Kevin Cormack said. “We can’t sign the license to occupy with an individual... right now we have no body to negotiate with.”

It’s unclear whether the Nelson Disc Golf Society is willing to form an incorporated society at this time.

The group had hoped to begin construction this spring.
