Nelson Police responded to a local homeless shelter Tuesday after receiving a report that a male was causing a disturbance.

It is reported that the man had been refused entry to the centre and began yelling and swearing at the volunteers who then became fearful of the man.

When officers arrived at the downtown location they found the 21-year-old male still yelling. After attempting to calm the suspect down unsuccessfully, police arrested him.

The suspect, who is well known to police, was detained briefly in a cell and released on conditions not to attend the homeless centre. He will appear in court June 5 charged with resisting arrest and causing a disturbance.
