Nelson police arrested a DJ performing at The Royal on the weekend on an immigration breach.
Brooklyn Earick, 27, a U.S. citizen, was taken to the police station at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, served with a detention order by immigration officials and held overnight.
Police say the “internationally well known DJ” was interviewed the following morning and released. He was ordered to attend a hearing in Vancouver on Wednesday.
Sgt. Howie Grant says when Earick arrived in Calgary a few days ago, he allegedly declared himself a visitor to Canada, but border officials later determined that he was here to perform.
“He was co-operative throughout, and released without restrictions,” Grant says.
Earick, an Ohio native, posted on his Twitter account Sunday afternoon: “Thank you Nelson, Canada..You guys were awesome. Off to Vancouver to hopefully get sorted w/ immigration so I can come back soon. Cheers.”
