Roaming drunks caused residents and the Nelson Police Department grief over the weekend.

Early Saturday morning the local department received a report of a male attempting to enter a Fairview residence in a severely intoxicated state.

Just after 6 a.m., the homeowner prevented the male from entering the residence and an altercation ensued. With the assistance of a neighbouring resident, the homeowner managed to gain control of the male suspect until police arrived on scene.

The male was immediately placed under arrest and in the process assaulted an NPD officer. The 29-year-old Nelson resident faces an Assault Police Officer charge and is scheduled to appear in Nelson Court on May 28.  The officer sustained minor injuries from the assault.

Just after midnight on Sunday morning, officers received a report from a surprised Uphill resident who found an unknown intoxicated female in his basement area.

NPD officers arrived on scene and discovered that the female had entered the residence in error as she believed it to be her own. The female was transported to her residence a couple blocks away.

Nelson Police are not considering charges in relation to this matter.
