Evacuation alerts have been lifted for residents living near the Fry Creek wildfire northeast of Kaslo.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay announced Thursday that the fire is no longer threatening properties in the Johnsons Landing area south of Gar Creek as well as the community of Birchdale.

The announcement follows the lifting of an area restriction for the Monument Creek wildfire near Nelson.

Fry Creek is an estimated 900 hectares in size located in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy on the east side of Kootenay Lake south of Argenta, according to the BC Wildfire Service. The fire began Aug. 25 due to suspected lightning.
