Evacuation alerts rescinded for three fires near Castlegar

Renata remains under alert however

Evacuation alerts have been removed for areas affected by the Syringa Creek, Deer Creek and McArthur Creek wildfires.

A statement released Thursday by the Regional District of Central Kootenay said that although crews continue to battle fires, there is no longer any danger to people or structures.

“We would like to thank the people affected by these wildfires for their patience over the past few weeks and for living under these alerts,” said Chris Johnson, the RDCK Emergency Operations Centre director.

“Firefighting crews have been doing a lot of great work in very difficult terrain, helped by some recent favourable weather conditions, and we — along with the people in these communities — are breathing a sigh of relief.”

The last remaining evac alert is for Renata and the area southeast of Brooklyn affected by the Bulldog Mountain wildfire.
