Expect strong winds today as storm moves east and south

Slocan and Arrow Lake valleys could see 80-km/hr winds

Forecasters say residents of the Arrow Lakes and Slocan valley should be prepared for strong winds today.

A strong storm that wreaked havoc from 100 Mile House to Salmon Arm Friday is heading for the West Kootenays.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Friday afternoon, saying a cold front is moving across the southern BC interior and will reach Washington State in the afternoon.

“Strong southerly winds have developed ahead of the front, with strong gusty west to northwest winds behind the front,” says the statement. “As the wind direction shifts, a brief period of very strong gusts in excess of 80 km/h are possible.”

Winds will remain gusty through the afternoon and ease this evening.

Environment Canada recommends people continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
