A fatal skiing accident north of Trout Lake has claimed the life of a 70-year-old California man.

Yesterday at 1:48 p.m. the Great Northern Cat Skiing company contacted Nakusp RCMP after a skier fell into a tree well. Guides and fellow skiers attempted to rescue the man. They dug him out and performed CPR but despite these efforts the man died at the scene.

The man from Emeryville, California was part of a tour group of about 10 skiers with the cat skiing company skiing on Ferguson Mountain north of Trout Lake.

RCMP officers report there appears to be nothing suspicious in the case, however the investigation continues.

Victim’s assistance has been offered to the other skiers involved as well as the employees and guides from the cat ski company.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Great Northern Snowcat Skiing has been operating in the area since 1979.
