At 10:45 last evening, Nelson Fire Rescue Services responded to a report of smoke, flames and embers coming from the front of a house in uphill.
Assistant Fire Chief Mike Daloise reports that they were able to get close enough to discharge a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher and were able to completely extinguish the fire before it spread to the inside of the house.
There was a considerable amount of smoke inside the structure and fire crews needed to set up large fans to exhaust as much as possible.
Damage is estimated at $5000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
