Fire damages Victoria Street home

Nelson Fire and Rescue were called to a residential fire on Victoria Street on Wednesday evening.

The fire, which originated near the rear of the building, was contained by members to the lower level of the home.

No residents were injured but one firefighter was taken to Kootenay Lake Hospital with heat exhaustion symptoms. He was later released and returned to work.

Two engines, two utility vehicles and 10 personnel attended the scene, including assistance from the Nelson Police Department. Nelson Fire and Rescue estimated the fire caused $50,000 in damages.
