A report of black smoke from a Baker St. building brought the Nelson Fire Department out at about 8 a.m. this morning.
The fire was in an office on the third floor at 446 Baker St. There was no one in the building at the time.
Assistant Fire Chief Mike Daloise told the Star that they managed to put the fire out quickly, and that they then spent several hours dealing with water damage.
"We vacuumed up the water and mopped up to stop it dripping down into lower properties," he said.
"On the third floor there is a fair bit of heat and smoke damage, and relatively minor fire damage. On the second floor some water damage and minor smoke damage, and maybe a bit of water and minor smoke damage on the first floor in the Maison business."
Daloise said the next step will be to investigate the cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage.
