While chefs from Toronto, Montreal and Calgary dominate the cast list for the inaugural season of Top Chef Canada, local restaurateur Jamie Hertz is adding some small-town flavour to the mix.

Hertz, who owns Nelson’s Fusion Bistro, is one of 16 chefs who will appear on the Canadian version of the popular Food Network reality series. The winner of the competition receives $100,000 as well as a $30,000 kitchen.

The local chef is one of three British Columbians competing on the show. Other contestants hail from Whistler and Vancouver.

Top Chef Canada premieres April 11 at 10 p.m. Pacific Time.
