Golf course proposal steps up to the tee

A plan to develop the area around the Granite Pointe Golf Club got its first nod from Nelson city council this week.

Council gave the first two readings to an amendment to the city’s official community plan, which would allow zoning around the golf course to be changed from park and open space to mixed use.

The club is hoping to recruit developers to build up to 300 residences and some commercial buildings in the area, and is asking council to consider the OCP amendment in advance to gauge its approval of the project.

The current plan for the lands calls for a commercial hub with studio space for local artisans, and a mix of housing types, including affordable rentals and seniors housing.
