Snowstorm hits Nelson but highways remain open

Slippery sections reported in some areas

Despite the dramatic winds and blowing snow in Nelson overnight and early this morning, all highways in and out of the city are open Monday morning.

DriveBC reports slippery sections on Highway 3A between Brilliant Powerplant Road and the Kootenay Lake Ferry.

Slippery sections are also reported on Highways 3A and 6 from Slocan through Playmor Junction and Salmo to the U.S. border.

All routes to the Lower Mainland and to the East Kootenay are open.

Environment Canada says five centimetres of snow is expected to fall on Nelson but will end in the afternoon. The forecast for the rest of the week beginning Tuesday is mostly sunny weather.
