Staff at A&W called Nelson Police to report a drive thru customer who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Officers found the vehicle stopped a short distance away. The 39-year-old male driver provided two breath samples, which confirmed he had been drinking.

Police also discovers the vehicle he was driving was uninsured and the plates didn't match the vehicle.

The driver was served a 90 day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Fight on Ward Street

Nelson Police received multiple calls to report a fight in progress in the 500 block of Ward Street, between Baker and Victoria Streets, on Saturday, January 5 at 5:45 p.m.

The two men engaged in the fight went through a nearby window, though neither were seriously hurt by the glass.

Police took both men into custody. They both alleged the other had started the fight.

The incident is still under investigation. There were numerous witnesses with differing stories.

One of the men involved in the fight, a 29 year old, was found to be in breach of conditions of his release from a previous charge of uttering threats. He was also carrying what was believed to be cocaine. He'll appeal in Nelson court to answer to those charges on April 9.
