The Mountie who caused an online sensation by donning Red Serge to play hockey at high altitude will soon be on the move.

The Mountie who caused an online sensation by donning Red Serge to play hockey at high altitude will soon be on the move.

Kaslo RCMP Cpl. Shaun Begg has been promoted to sergeant and will leave the community in July to take up a new assignment in Smithers.

Begg has commanded the Kaslo detachment for the past 2½ years.

“Over this time Shaun has gained our respect for his leadership and integrity,” his colleagues said in a Facebook post.

A photo of Begg playing hockey in the Purcell mountains while garbed in his ceremonial uniform went viral after the RCMP posted it on Twitter.
