The maternity program at Nelson’s Kootenay Lake Hospital will be getting some national coverage this weekend.

Dr. Brian Goldman of CBC’s White Coat, Black Art paid a visit to Nelson in August to interview local doctors, midwives and other maternity staff.

Bryna Idler, administrator for the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation said the strength of the maternity program at the Kootenay Lake Hospital lies in the close inter-professional relationships between midwives, family physicians, maternity staff and Obstetricians/Gynecologists.

Idler also said that at the hospital uncomplicated deliveries are mainly handled by midwives and family physicians, while Dr. Raz Moola and Dr. Sheryl Alger focus on more complicated deliveries.

White Coat, Black Art examines the business and culture of medicine from an insider’s perspective.

The Nelson maternity program will be featured on Saturday at 12 p.m. on CBC Radio One (98.7 FM in Nelson).
