Two Kootenay families bound by war officially reunited Saturday when Kitchener's George Huscroft met Nelson's Ron Cox, who served alongside his father during World War II.
Cox, a corporal, and Denis Huscroft, a lieutenant, participated in a dangerous mission at Little Tobruk, Holland in 1945. The story of that incident was recounted in a Star Weekly article by Matthew Halton.
Although Cox returned home safely, Huscroft did not: he was killed in battle at Wagenborgen a few weeks before the war ended. George, 68, never met his father and until today had never met Cox, 92, either.
The reunion came about after the Star wrote a profile of Cox last Remembrance Day which Denis Huscroft's sister spotted online.
