Local highways quiet down

The Nelson Police Department says most people are starting to remember their winter driving skills.

The Nelson Police Department says after a week or two of less than ideal conditions, most people are starting to remember their winter driving skills.

Police attended only four accidents in four days, none involving injuries and only one which involved substantial damage, Sgt. Paul Burkart said Friday.

“As we find most years, after a week or two of winter, Nelson residents get back into the swing of winter driving,” Burkart says. “We remember to slow down and use the well sanded, plowed routes to get to our locations.”

He added by now most people have their winter tires installed and people also realize that staying home is sometimes a better choice than heading out on difficult roads.
