Local police asked to investigate Penticton incident

The Nelson Police are assisting the Penticton RCMP in an external investigation after a man was injured during a struggle with police.

The Nelson Police Department is assisting the Penticton RCMP in an external investigation after a man suffered an injury to his leg during a struggle with police.

The man allegedly stumbled onto the Penticton street in front of a police vehicle around 11:30 p.m. on December 21, 2011.

A police officer stopped to talk to the man who appeared to be intoxicated.

A struggle broke out between the man and the police. The man suffered an injury to his leg.

The man was taken to hospital where it was confirmed that his leg was broken.

The Nelson Police Department have been asked to conduct an independent investigation of the incident, which Sgt. Howie Grant said is common in these cases.
