Four more locals received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal on Sunday for outstanding community service.
Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall presented the medals at a ceremony at Nelson’s Hume Hotel to Salmo’s Dorothy Hearn, Kaslo’s Bruce Walker, Nelson’s Joan Reichardt, and Sirdar’s Shannon Nickish.
The four were selected following a two-month process that began in August with a public call for nominations. A group of prominent citizens was then asked to shortlist the nominees to 13, divided among four regions of the riding. Constituents voted online and by phone for the winners. Almost 700 votes were cast.
Southern Interior MP Alex Atamanenko also presented medals to ten people nominated by the Regional District of Central Kootenay in a similar ceremony Friday.
