With the record amount of snowfall and precipitation in March, the annual snow melt at Nelson’s Granite Pointe golf course is not going according to plan so the greens crew has taken matters into their own hands.
On Monday superintendent Ryan Holliday and his small spring crew began snowblowing the greens to get the melt moving along. Though there is still lots of snow up at the Rosemont course, if the decent weather continues the course could be opened by early next week.
Despite the snow caused delay, Holliday said the cover helped provide nice insulation from the elements and the putting surfaces came through the winter in fine shape. So the wait might just be worth it.
Last season the local course did not open until late-April.
