Two Nelson companies are included in WorkSafeBC’s enforcement report for 2010.
Bergevin Electrical Contracting was fined $7,850 after the firm’s owner “suffered serious burns from an electrical flash while working on an energized electrical panel.”
The report calls it a “high-risk” violation of a requirement to completely disconnect and lock out electrical equipment before working on it.
Meanwhile, McLaren Distributors was fined $4,300 after a worker stood close to the unguarded edge of a roof about 3.5 meters above grade without any fall protection.
They also failed to submit a notice detailing the steps being taken to comply with orders issued for previous violations.
Overall, WorkSafeBC assessed 256 penalties in 2010 totalling $3.2 million against employers for violations of occupational health and safety regulations and the Workers Compensation Act.
