Nelson Hydro customers will receive a one-time cost-of-living credit on their electricity bills, according to a news release from the City of Nelson.
The rebate is part of a provincial government initiative to address the impacts of global inflation on families and small businesses in B.C. The rebate will be given to customers of all hydro utilities in the province.
Residential customers can expect a $100 credit on their first electricity bill in 2023. One credit is available per residential customer, regardless of the number of accounts each customer holds, the news release states.
“I am pleased the provincial government has recognized how much of an impact global inflation has had on B.C. communities and has taken a proactive step to assist our Nelson Hydro customers,” said Mayor Janice Morrison in a statement.
“This credit will also go a long way towards mitigating the impact of scheduled electricity rate increases set to come into effect on Jan. 1, 2023.”
Commercial customers will receive a credit based on their electricity consumption between Oct. 1, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022. This is expected to average around $240.
Customers do not have to apply for the credit.
To be eligible for the cost-of-living credit on your electricity bill, an account must have been active on Oct. 1, 2022, and continue to be active. The credit will appear automatically on hydro bills.
