Nelson Hydro delays downtown work

Electrical upgrades scheduled to resume this week in Nelson’s downtown core won’t be up and running until April 4.

Electrical upgrades scheduled to resume this week in Nelson’s downtown core won’t be up and running until April 4.

According to a release from the city, current frost levels in the ground have stalled the project for the rest of the month, and resuming work now would lead to increased safety risks and “prohibit project efficiencies.”

The upgrade will see much of the electrical wiring in the downtown moved underground, as well as new power poles and pad-mounted transformers installed.

When crews halted work last November, they had laid underground lines on five of the 26 city blocks marked for upgrading.
