Nelson man to face charges following limousine accident

RCMP are recommending charges a 26-year-old Nelson man after he assaulted the driver of a limousine causing a collision on Columbia Avenue.

Castlegar RCMP are recommending charges of assault and mischief endangering life for a 26-year-old Nelson man after an incident on January 8 in which the man assaulted the driver of a limousine while en route from Nelson to Castlegar.

According to other passengers, the man grew aggressive and grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle causing the driver to lose control and sending the vehicle and its 18 passengers into a sign post, fire hydrant and cement barrier before coming to a stop at Columbia Avenue.

No one was injured in the incident, but substantial damage was reported to the sign post, cement barrier and fire hydrant, which was sheared off. The man was located a short distance away and arrested. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 20.
