Regional district crews and residents worked to divert water that crossed the Burlington Northern trail above Gore Street on Wednesday afternoon.

City of Nelson and Regional District of Central Kootenay crews were scrambling Wednesday afternoon as the relentless rain continues to cause rising waters in local tributaries.

On Wednesday afternoon, creeks in the Nelson area were dangerously close to overflowing in several areas of Fairview and Uphill. City crews were kept busy monitoring Anderson, Hume, Ward and Cottonwood creeks.

Debris was cleaned out of culverts and the Nelson Fire Department was planning to continue the watch through the night.

Several culverts were plugged during the afternoon causing minor flooding on streets and near homes along Fort Sheppard Drive.
