Nelson Police Department hires new deputy chief

The Nelson Police Department has hired a new deputy chief.

Raj Saini grew up in Toronto and most recently served at the Brantford Police Service for 23 years, according to a press release from chief Donovan Fisher.

“Raj is a trained incident commander and brings a strong operational background as a major case management team commander,” Fisher said.

“He has recently been seconded to work on shooting investigations, has worked in the homicide unit, and has conducted project-level drug and other complex investigations.”

Saini is a part-time instructor at the Ontario Police College, teaching investigative techniques and major case management courses. He has a masters degree in public safety and is working to complete his PhD. He is multilingual with fluency in Punjabi, Hindi and English.

He will be start on Jan. 4, 2022.
