Under the scorching July 1st sun, the Canada Day celebration is now officially underway in Nelson.
Just before 11 a.m. at Rotary Lakeside Park, local dignitaries gave speeches, O Canada was sung and giant cake was cut for all to enjoy.
The festivities include music and much more. It runs all day at Nelson's main park along the shore of Kootenay Lake.
Fireworks are slated for 10 p.m.
