Nelson’s Cottonwood Falls Market received national press after appearing in the May issue of Chatelaine Magazine.
The Market which is a fixture in the community was recognized as being one of the best markets in the country.
"It’s called Cottonwood Community Market and it’s an important part of our community and it has been for a long time. It should be celebrated for that," said Jesse Woodward, market director for the West Kootenay EcoSociety.
Being called "Mini Woodstock" the magazine describes the scene at the market as being a place to "Sprawl out and people-watch on lush green grass or join hippies and artist to be serenaded by local musicians at the base of the Cottonwood Falls."
Woodward emphasized that while the Market - which is going into it's 15th year this year - has become known for it's "Woodstock, hippy, incense scene" there really is something for everyone.
"We’re trying to of course have anchor farmer vendors so that there are fresh fruits and vegetables coming in all the time," he said. "There is also jewelry, live plants, body care, arts and crafts, and we’re going to have a café down there with ready to eat food."
The article tells readers that they can "score" everything "boho essentials" like incense, oils, and herbs and customized cremation urns.
"Cottonwood is this unique place in Nelson and has a special flavour. People come to see that and be part of it," said Woodward. "For me that is always been so striking with the falls pouring out. When I’ve been down there and the music is playing there is this amazing community atmosphere."
Victoria, Calgary and Saskatoon were also mentioned in the magazine.
The Cottonwood Falls Market opens May 19.
